New patient exam

We believe in providing personalised, high quality dental care for your long term benefit. Your routine dental examinations, x-rays and hygiene visits do more than just preserve your smile; they enable us to detect oral facial as well as dental problems before they worsen.

We will carry out an in-depth examination of your head and neckand will inform you in simple terms how best to manage your care.
Full examination requires time and, where necessary a diagnostic salivary test will play an important role in devising your prevention plan.
Our  aim is to enhance your smile and confidence and help you to maintain healthy teeth and gums for life.

This Dental And Oral Medicine examination will include:

Oral Medicine (incl. cancer) screening
Patients who are tobacco smoking or significant alcohol users, are in primary danger of developing oral cancer. We are committed to the prevention of oral cancer through early identification of pre-cancerous conditions, and provide oral cancer screenings at each preventative care appointment. If you ever notice an oral lesion that lasts for more that 2 weeks do not wait to have it examined.

Periodontal exam
Periodontal disease or "gum disease" is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United Kingdom. We will examine you gum tissue to determine the health of you periodontal structures (gums and bone levels). Successful dental treatment depends on healthy gums. We take your periodontal health very seriously and will monitor it at all hygiene maintenance visits.

Caries exam
During this visual examination, We locates areas of decay on chewing surfaces and between the teeth. We uses both a clinical exam and x-ray (radiographic) findings to determine the most conservative treatment plan for you oral needs.

Diagnostic Study Models
Study models are stone replica casts of your teeth and jaws that are made from imprints of you teeth.

Dynamic Occlusion, TMJ Temperomandibular and neuromuscular screening:
This section of the examination pertains to your bite, abnormal tooth wear, your temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and the chewing muscles. Abnormalities in these areas can cause facial pain, headaches, joint pain and noise and a variety of other related symptoms. If problems are noted a more detailed evaluation may be needed to determine the full extent of the problem.

Digital photographic survey:
We  will often take a series of digital photos to use for treatment planning and patient education.  Often the old saying, "a picture is worth 1000 words" applies to the dental photographic examination. High-resolution photos enable the doctor and patient see things more clearly. Photos illustrate the presence of problems that the patient is not aware of or has no pain associated with.

Radiographic Survey
A necessary part of the new patient examination is a full radiographic survey of your mouth. There are areas that it is impossible to examine without these films. During the exam th dentist will determine the need for x-rays and what type. We follows established guidelines developed by the Royal College os General Practioners on radiograph use.
